Join Dale Wheeler and Dale Travels on a 12-day visit to Venice, Florence, Siena and the Cinque Terre. Together we will experience famous sights and learn their histories, while also exploring small neighborhoods, eating and drinking with the locals, visiting vineyards and craftspeople, and soaking up the quiet, beautiful places most tourists seldom find.
Our Tour Highlights
Day 1, October 2, TRAVEL DAY, FLYING TO VENICE
Day 2, October 3, ARRIVE IN VENICE
After catching a private water taxi to our hotel, we’ll have an easy walk in the afternoon and enjoy a great dinner together. Getting acclimated the day you arrive can be a bit much, so we’ll keep this day easy and at your pace. A slow evening walk in Venice is a fine cure for jet lag!
Days 3, October 4, EXPERIENCE VENICE
By foot and by boat, we’ll visit Saint Mark’s Basilica and Square, the Grand Canal with its famous bridges, and cruise the “back street” canals via gondola. With the help of local guides, we’ll experience Venice that most day-tripping tourists never know – small workshops and galleries, markets, memorable sights
Day 4, October 5, LAST SIGHTS AND ONWARD TO FLORENCE
We’ll catch a train to Florence at midday. Sit back and relax as we rail through farmlands. After hotel
Day 5 and 6, October 6 – 7, GET TO KNOW RENAISSANCE FLORENCE
If ever there is a city with artistic, architectural and culinary treasures at nearly every turn, this is it. We’ll learn about Brunelleschi’s dome as we climb to the top, with exclusive terrace views over the city. You’ll get to know Florence with a guided bike tour. Love pasta? We’ll be making and enjoying our creations over dinner and wine. You’ll have free time to visit museums, shops, gardens or simply sit and gaze at all those things that you’ve only seen in history books. And, we’ll take in a magnificent sunset followed by dinner at my favorite trattoria.
Day 7, October 8, INTO THE TUSCAN COUNTRYSIDE
As we make our way to Siena, we’ll visit the UNESCO designated hilltop town of San Gimignano. Once settled into our cozy hotel, you’ll happily wander and get lost on your first evening in the tiny twisting streets of this historic town.
Days 8 and 9, October 9 – 10, EXPLORE SIENA AND GET LOCAL
Day 10, October 11, WATCH OUT FOR THAT LEANING TOWER!
You’ll be sad to leave but we’ll travel to yet another UNESCO site, Vernazza. On the way, we’ll make a stop at Pisa – can you guess what we might see there?
Day 11 and 12, October 12 – 13, CHILL ON THE ITALIAN RIVIERA
Perched on the rugged coast of the Cinque Terre, this tiny village is dazzling. Hike through vineyards, catch a train to the next seaside town, paddle a kayak along the coast or simply sit on the breakwater with a glass of local wine and… sigh with contentment. We’ll keep the schedule light so you can soak in all the beauty at your own pace. In the afternoon, we’ll bid our farewells to Vernazza and spend our final evening in Milan.
