My original title for this tour, “The great beer, wine, cheese, food, castles, rivers, gardens, and historic towns tour”, is a bit too lengthy. But it is a great description of our active exploration of one of my favorite regions on earth.
We’ll start the fun in Munich with the one-of-a-kind, legendary Oktoberfest. While there we will also visit the raucously famous Hofbräuhaus and enjoy some quiet time at an outdoor biergarten.
Next, we will stop in historical Nuremberg to enjoy traditional smoky Rauchbier.
From Nuremburg we will spend a few days in Rhine and Moselle river towns. These beautiful towns – tucked on hillsides overlooking the rivers – feature vineyards and castles with great local vibe. Germany isn’t just beer – we’ll sample white wines at a local vineyard. We’ll have a magical forest hike to the completely restored Burg Eltz castle.
Belgium is our next stop. Known for delicious innumerable styles of beer, we’ll enjoy a variety including trappists, strongs, blondes, and sours. But we’ll also visit quaint old towns crisscrossed with canals, and sustain ourselves on seafood, stews, frites, waffles, and chocolates!
Finally, we will spend our remaining time in the Amsterdam area. We’ll explore windmills, canals, art and historic sights, and check out the local food scene, coffee shops, and more regional beers.
We’ll make use of our feet, bikes, and public transportation as we explore Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands together. Pack light!
